The National Alliance for Solar Thermal Energy is a cooperation of over 70 members comprising all of the key manufacturers that form the backbone of the solar thermal industry, and local renowned technology innovation institutions in the fields of academia and research. It is one of the first pilot alliances established by the ministry and is also regarded as an integral part of China's innovation system building.

Solar Thermal China is the first pure business to business exhibition in China dedicated to the solar thermal market. Taking place over 3 days, Solar Thermal China creates a unique trading platform for Chinese and foreign industry professionals to showcase their latest solar thermal products, technologies, and services. As integral part of the umbrella event Clean Energy Expo China (CEEC), Solar Thermal China shares CEEC’s resource and takes advantage of its position as a leading trading and knowledge-sharing platform for the entire clean energy industry in China.

Solar thermal power generation, especially Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) is regarded as a favourable alternative energy sources due to its unique advantages such as smoother output in comparison with other renewable energies. China sees solar thermal power as one of the strategic emerging industries which need to be intensively developed. Major energy groups in China have started planning CSP projects, creating a new competition hotspot for manufacturers. Solar thermal power generation projects in China have already reached a market value of USD 7 billion.

At the same time, China is the largest market in the world for solar thermal products. The production output, installed capacity, and total sales volume of solar thermal products have all experienced double-digit annual growth for over 10 years. Policy incentives such as the passing of Chinese “Renewable Energy Law”, the adoption of a new “National Renewable Energy Policy”, and new local solar regulations keep boosting the demand of solar thermal products. It is predicted that by 2020, the penetration of solar applications in rural areas in China will reach 60%, with total sales over USD 54 billion.
